This exhibition was organized to celebrate the donation of Manuel Altolaguirre and Concha Méndez' private archives by their daughter, Paloma, to the Residencia de Estudiantes.

 

The exhibition was divided into four sections that followed the life and professional career of this couple, both poets and printers. The first section was dedicated to Manuel Altolaguirre and the second one to Concha Méndez. Both included a selection of documents, photographs, correspondence and plays by Méndez, Altolaguirre's film scripts, and artwork by artists José Moreno Villa, Carlos Enriquez, Gregorio Prieto and Maruja Mallo. The third section included a selection of documents from their archives, illustrating their life together. This material had never been shown before and contained manuscripts and some of their printing work done in Madrid, Havana, and Mexico. Finally, the fourth section dealt with their friendship with Emilio Prados, Paul Eluard, María Zambrano, Consuelo Berges, Gerardo Diego, Luis Cernuda and José Moreno Villa, using letters and photographs to provide an insight into the artistic and literary milieu in which they lived.
